|Governor Willie Obiano|
Governor Willie Obiano has called on Ndi Anambra to support his administration's vision for environmental sustainability by imbibing healthy sanitation habits.
He made the call when he inspected ongoing removal of illegal structures at Nkpor junction, in Idemili North local government Area.
Government House Correspondent Kenechukwu Ofomah quotes Governor Obiano, as saying that the State is presently facing serious environmental challenges, attributing some of them to unhealthy environmental practices such as dumping of refuse into water channels, building on drainages, among others.
He noted that in response to this, his administration is embarking on a massive operation to recover the environment and address some of the issues driving the people's negative attitude towards environmental protection.
Some of these he noted include desilting of drainages, provision of additional receptacles for waste disposal, encouraging communities to plant trees and discouraging indiscriminate bush burning.
The Governor explained that what his government aims to achieve with the Operation no street trading, is to save lives and open up the congested areas, stressing that there is no going back on the initiative.
He further warned that his administration will prosecute anyone apprehended for violating environmental laws.
