Tansian Varsity Holds Convocation, offer prizes to best graduating students

The Government at all levels have been called upon to give more support to private and missionary schools to make them more proactive in the business of human capital development, and as well measure up with international best practices in education.

The Founder and Chancellor of the Tansian University, Very Reverend Monsignor Johnbosco Akam, made the call during the 5th and 6th combined convocation ceremony for the conferment of first degrees and award of honorary degrees of the school held at the institution's premises at Umunya.

The event had in attendance parents, government officials, captains of industry, as well as representatives of sister institutions.

Very Reverend Monsignor Akam, who described the event as the best of its kind since the establishment of the institution, emphasized on the commitment of the institution to maintain its quality standard in the education business, and explained that private institutions still need more support of the government to make them more accessible and productive.

 In their addresses, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Obioma Iheduru, and the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Godwin Akam, maintained that the university is committed to producing graduates that would stand the test of time, advising the graduands to uphold quality and sound moral as well as be good ambassadors of the institution.

In their remarks, the Member Representing Aguata One Constitutency in the state Assembly, Dr. Ikechukwu Umeh, a Former Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Lady Chinwe Nnedum, and Chief Mrs Flora Ilonzo, while congratulating the young graduates, encouraged them not to see white collar job as the only means for survival, but rather to consider other areas like skill acquisition and the likes as an alternative.

Expressing gratitude to the university, a former Governor of Kano state, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, represented by Engineer Rabiu Suleiman who was during the event conferred with an honorary degree award, promised that he will continue to contribute towards moving the institution to a greater height, and appealed to other well meaning individuals to join hands to build the university to world standard.

Conferment of degrees, presentation of prizes to best graduating students, as well as cultural dance were the highlights of the ceremony.
