Telecom Company Donates Books To Primary School In Awka

The Anambra State Government has appealed to corporate bodies and philanthropists in the state to contribute towards developing the Education Sector.

The Commissioner for Basic Education, Processor Kate Omenugha made the call during a presentation of over one thousand story books to the pupils of Central School Awka by a Telecommunication Company.

Addressing teachers, pupils and others at the event, the Commissioner represented by the Director of School Projects in the Ministry, Mr. Ray Offor commended the Telecommunication Company for their kind gesture and noted that what they have done is in line with Governor Willie Obiano's vision in education.

Professor Omenugha who said that Governor Obiano has a strong passion for reading, made it clear that the books will help to enhance the reading culture of the pupils and urged them to utilize the books given to them for their own advantages.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. James Eze, who said reading help pupils to build their careers and expand their intellectual coast, eulogized the company for the donation and called on the pupils to take advantage of the books to brighten themselves.

The Head, Corporate Social Responsibilities of the company, Miss Chioma Okoye said that the exercise is part of their corporate social responsibilities of ensuring that pupils have good and better education, and made it clear that the company takes cognizance of the fact that reading helps pupils to sharpen their brains, dictions, pronunciations as well as writing, hence the provision of the books.

One of the pupils, Miss Jenny Okoye, commended the company for their support and assured that she will make adequate use of the books given to them and charged other companies to emulate them.

Highlights of the event was reading of some of the books by the dignitaries and the students as well as the official presentation of the books to the school authority.
