Obiano steps up inspection of rural councils roads

Gov Willie Obiano has been assured by the contractor handling Okpuno-Urum-Amanuke and Achalla roads project that they would be ready in five months.

This was ascertained during the Governor's visit to the project site to inspect the degree of job done so far by the contractor; and to assess the quality of construction work on the 20m long bridge over the river that demarcated the road ,which has been completed.

He also observed that greater length of the road has been primed for asphalting with quality drainages.

Considering the importance of the 15.9km road which connects Awka South to Awka North councils of the state, as well as being a direct link between all the communities in both councils, including Achalla, Amanuke, Urum and Isuaniocha and Mgbakwu, it was necessary to complete it without further delay.

While addressing the contractors, Gov Obiano expressed happiness over the pace and quality of job done so far and promised to release more funds for the road to be completed in the next three months.

He noted that he was paying attention to the project as it would on completion, boost food production in the area and make for easy evacuation of farm produce from the Awka North communities.

In his reaction, the contractor handling the job, Mr Lee Okoye acknowledged that they have received tremendous support from the government in the execution of the project and disclosed that the drainage and earth works had been completed in the Achalla section, while asphalting would commence in the next phase.

Gov Obiano also inspected construction work on the Agbaja Abatete-Oraukwu-Alor Junction road where he appreciated the pace of work and promised to release funds to ensure that the portion of the road where earthwork and drains have been achieved, was asphalted before the rains.

The site engineer of the firm handling the project, Mr Tochukwu Kalu assured that they are committed to delivering a quality project on schedule.

Stakeholders and citizens of the area thanked Gov Obiano for initiating and executing this project, which will go along way to bring developement to their communities as well as easy the challenge of transportation in the area.
